About the Winery

Kara-Tara is focused on hand-crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—classic Burgundian varietals—from cool-climate vineyards in the Western Cape. By sourcing premium grapes from diverse cool-climate regions such as Elgin, Overberg, Durbanville, and Stellenbosch, Kara-Tara aims to showcase the potential and quality of South Africa’s top grape growing sites.

José Conde, also Director of Stark-Condé and MAN Family Wines, and his team carefully consider vineyard variables such as soil type, elevation, microclimate, and rainfall to inform the winemaking process. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified at their cellar in Stellenbosch; crafted using traditional methods, with minimal intervention and careful barrel maturation in French oak.
