Sinefinis is more than a wine; it is a powerful symbol of unity from the cross-border partnership between Italy and Slovenia. Its name, meaning “without borders,” reflects a spirit of connection that blends not only grapes, but also people, languages, and heritage into every bottle. The two winegrowers, Robert Princic from Giasbana-San Floriano, Italy, and Matjaz Certic from Kojsko in Brda, Slovenia, are the driving forces behind this wine. After meeting during a Wine Business Masters course at the MIB School of Management in Trieste, the two came together to create one of the first examples of cross-border European wine. Rooted in the spirit of collaboration, the vineyard stretches across the picturesque hills of Collio in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the Brda region in western Slovenia, lands once ruled by the Patriarchs of Aquileia, the Counts of Gorizia, and various monarchies, including the Habsburgs, Napoleon, and the Kingdom of Italy. After the Treaty of Paris in 1947, the area was divided into two: Italy and the former Yugoslavia. Today, Robert and Matjaz create a new history for this land with their traditional method sparkling wine.
